Where Will You Spend Eternity After This Life?

*For mobile devices, this page is best viewed in the desktop view.

What are my options according to the Bible?

1. Spend eternal life with God in paradise

  • God prepares a place for his people in the joyous paradise of heaven until the judgment. God will create a new heaven and earth where this present life won’t be remembered.  There will be no more crying, pain, death, evil, or violence; children can play with lions and cobras.  God will reign with his people in the city made of pure gold, pearls, precious stones, and water as clear as crystal.  God himself will be the light and there will be no more night. (John 14:1-4, Luke 23:43, Isaiah 11:1-9, 60:14-22, 65:17-25, Revelation 2:7, 21:3-4, 9-22:5)

  • Knowing God is eternal life. (John 17:3, 1 John 5:20)

2. Spend eternal life without God in Hell

  • Hell is a place of eternal torment, weeping, fire, darkness, and agony without God. (Luke 16:23-28, Revelation 21:8, Matthew 13:49-50)

  • Most people’s lives are on the path to hell. (Matthew 7:13-14, John 10:7-9, Luke 13:23-27)

  • All whose names are not found written in God’s book of life will be condemned to hell.  (Revelation 20:11-15)

  • God doesn’t want anyone to go to hell, but for all to repent (turn from sin). (2 Peter 3:9, 1 Timothy 2:4)   See warning list on back page.

  • God will eventually destroy the present heavens & earth by fire. (Deuteronomy 32:22, 2 Peter 3:7-10, Revelation 21:1)

How can I go to Heaven and not to Hell?

1.  Believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord & Savior

  • Jesus is the Son of God. (Matthew 8:29, 14:33, 26:63-64)

  • Jesus is the Word of God that lived as a man on earth. (John 1:1-3, 14, Revelation 19:13)

  • Jesus is God. (John 1:1,18, 20:28, Romans 9:5, Philippians 2:6-11, Colossians 1:15-20)

  • Jesus is the Christ (Messiah), King, Lord, and Judge of all. (Revelation 19:16, Acts 10:37-43)

  • Jesus is the only way to the Father (God); there’s no one else. (John 14:6, Acts 4:12)

  • Jesus died so that our sins may be forgiven. (Isaiah 53, Matthew 26:28)

  • God’s will is for us to believe (have faith) in Jesus to have eternal life.  (John 3:16-21, 6:28-29)

    • Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we don’t see. Without faith it’s impossible to please God. We are saved by God’s grace through faith.  True faith is expressed through actions. Faith without action is dead. (Ephesians 2:8, Hebrews 11:1, 6, James 2:14-24)

  • Confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe (have faith) in your heart that God raised him from the dead. (Romans 10:9)

    • Everyone who confesses must turn away from wickedness. (2 Timothy 2:19)

  • Jesus’ name brings physical, mental, & spiritual healing and deliverance. (Matthew 4:23-25, 8:1-17, 28-34,9:1-8, 27-34, 10:1-8, 15:21-31, 17:14-20, 20:29-34, Acts 3:1-16, 5:12-16, 19:11-12)

2. Repent (turn away from your sins) and start living God’s way (doing what’s right).

  • “Sin” is breaking God’s law (lawlessness) and will for your life. (1 John 3:4-6, Matthew 7:21-23)

  • All people have sinned. (Romans 3:23)

  • Your sins have separated you from God.  (Isaiah 59:1-2)

  • Sin leads to death. (Romans 6:23, 7:5, James 1:15)

  • All who live sinful lives are slaves to sin.  That’s why it’s hard to stop. (John 8:31-36, Rom. 6:16)

  • God wants to destroy the work of sin in your life. (1 John 3:4-10)

  • If you do right (righteousness), He will forgive you and forget your past sins. (Ezekiel 18:21-32)

  • There is celebration in heaven when one sinner repents. (Luke 15:8-10)

  • Jesus judged the towns where he did most of his miracles because they didn’t repent. (Matthew 11:20-24)

  • Repent or perish. (Luke 13:1-9)

  • Get baptized in water to symbolize your repentance as commanded by Jesus.  It is the pledge of a good conscience towards God and also symbolizes dying to your old sinful life. (Matthew 3:11-15, 1 Peter 3:21, Romans 6:1-8)

  • Forgive others (from your heart) or God will not forgive your sins.                                           (Matthew 6:14-15, 18:21-35)

4.  Remain in obedience to God

  • The greatest command is to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, & strength. (Matthew 22:35-38, Luke 10:25-37)

  • The 2nd greatest command is to love others like you love yourself. (Matthew 22:39-40)

  • Practice and teach God’s commands. (Matthew 5:19-20, 28:19-20)

  • Only those who do God’s will can enter the kingdom of heaven.  (Matthew 7:21)

  • Whoever claims to know Jesus and doesn’t obey him is a liar. (1 John 2:3-6)

  • Stay in obedience to God. Otherwise He may come for you like a thief. (Matthew 24:45-51)

  • Stop sinning.  No one who is born of God will continue in sin. (1 John 3:7-10)

    • Resist the devil and he will flee (run) from you. (James 4:7)

    • Live by God’s Spirit and not by your flesh (sinful nature).  (Romans 8:1-13, Galatians 5:16-26)

  • If you keep on willfully sinning, expect God’s judgment. (Hebrews 10:26-29)

  • Many will turn away from the faith. (Matt. 24:10)

  • Whoever does not remain in Christ will be destroyed. (John 15:1-6)

  • Deny yourself, take up your cross (be willing to suffer), & follow Jesus. (Matthew 16:24-25)

  • Whoever endures to the end will be saved.  (Matthew 10:22, 24:13)

5. Receive God’s Holy Spirit (Helper)

  • You must be born spiritually of God’s Spirit to see the kingdom of God. (John 1:10-13, 3:1-8)

  • Jesus baptizes believers with the Holy Spirit & fire. (Matthew 3:11, Acts 2:1-4, 10:44-46, 19-7)

  • Jesus promises to give the Holy Spirit (Helper) to those who obey him. (John 14:15-15:17)

  • God’s Spirit brings love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, & self-control. (Galatians 5:22)

  • Those led by the Spirit are son’s (or daughter’s) of God and are heirs to God’s kingdom. (Romans 8:13-15, Galatians 3:26-29)

  • The Holy Spirit gives us power & spiritual gifts to do God’s will. (Acts 1:8, 1 Cor. 12-14, Eph. 4:11-13)

  • The Holy Spirit helps you keep God’s commands. (Ezekiel 36:26-28, Romans 8:5-8)

Be Sure That You Are Saved

Following God is the most important decision in life, since it determines where we will spend eternity.  Life is a test set up for you to find God (Acts 17:26-31).  Do not be deceived into believing you are saved if you are living a lifestyle that is sinful or worldly or if you are a lukewarm Christian.  Humble yourself before God and repent (turn away) from all evil ways. Seek God with all your heart through prayer, worship, study of God’s word in the Bible and live in obedience to God.
